Well its just about time to put the skis away for the season so here's the WITB for the season!
Driver: 9.5* Callaway FT-3 Tour Neutral w/ Aldila NV 85 Stiff
Not completely sure about this club, driver has always been my weak club, but the FT3 has been in my bag longer then any other driver. Plus, I like it a lot better then anything else I've gotten my hands on. Its been much more consistent since I've cut the shaft down to 43". But as always I'm tinkering :-) Later this week I should get my hands on an old Macgregor M38 so we'll see if regressing down to a sub 400cc head does anything positive. I find the huge drivers are great for not losing distance when you don't catch them perfect, only problem is that instead of being 260 in the fairway, you're 235 in the trees 40 yards offline. I'd rather be 220 in the fairway or 15-20 yards offline in the rough.
3 Wood: 13.5* Macgregor V-foil Eye o Matic M03 w/ True Temper Bimatrix Rxi Stiff
Ah the 3 wood, the holy grail of all golfers, if you ever want to drive a equipment company nuts, go check out how many PGA and LPGA pros are still playing old "ancient" fairway woods instead of the new "top of the line" models. I admit I cheated on my baby this year. I had its shaft pulled to put in a driver, and I had a fling with a 4 wood, but neither of them worked out. Without a doubt this is my safety blanket off the tee, no matter how poorly I'm hitting my driver, I can step up and pipe the 3 wood and only give up 10-15 yards. Its not the best off the deck due to the lower loft, but its low profile and I've shortened the shaft down to 42" so hopefully that'll help somewhat. Although it has been pointed out that I score MUCH better on Par 5's when I play to my strengths by hitting fairways, laying up to good yardages, and attempting to make easy 4's with my short irons instead of trying to make heroic 3's by bombing a driver and smashing a 3 wood, which more often then not results in 6's and 7's.
Hybrids: 21* and 24* Nike CPR ironwoods w/ True Temper Bimatrix Rxi Stiff
Yeah, they're candy apple red Yeah I should "man up" and carry a 3 and 4 iron, but the feeling of lofting one high in the air, carrying it over the water, and landing it soft on the green from 200 yards away and then smiling when your 3 iron wormburner finds the drink is just TOO MUCH FUN.
Did I mention they're extremely useful for hitting that low punch out of trees, or a slinging hook, or a high fade, or even chipping from off the green? In any event you'll be getting my candy apple red fruity clubs out of my bag when you pry them from my cold dead hands(so in other words, they're staying forever).
Irons: Macgregor V-Foil M565 w/ Dynamic Gold X100

What can I say about these clubs? I love to call them "players heads with training wheels" which means they look good, but have plenty of forgiveness for when I'm not exactly striping the ball.
I liked them with the stock rifle 5.5 shafts but decided that I needed to move to something stiffer and heavier to help tighten up my dispersion. So in came the DG x100, at first I was a bit nervous that I'd bitten off more then I could chew(after all Tiger plays x100 straight in and I'm NOWHERE near his level), but it just took me a couple of range sessions and a few rounds to get them dialed in. You don't have to be perfect, and in fact my misses are much closer to target. However you get sloppy and off plane and they'll let you know by punishing you. So far I'm satisfied, my GIR % has gone from low 30's to a shade under 50% which is a shade under 3 more greens hit per round.
Wedges: Macgregor Tour Forged 54* and 58* w/ Rifle 5.5

When I switched the irons from Rifle to Dynamic Gold I agonized back and forth about what to do with the wedges. For the most part I use my 54* and 58* for 1/2 and 1/4 shots so I decided to stay with the Rifles for the softer feel around the greens and I think I'm going to stay that way. The 58* has a custom heel grind that lets me open the face for flop shots.
Putter: Macgregor Ironmaster IM
Ok so it was just supposed to be a "practice/training" putter for grooving my stroke, but it feels so good I'm going to game it for a while. Its an absolute classic design and most of Palmer and Nicklaus's majors were won with this style. We'll see how this works out. Famous last words right?
Ball: Nike TA2 SPN
Great ball, made better by the fact that it can be found at the bargain price of $14.99, well it could until I bought most of the stock :-) I'm going to be really upset when I run out, but I should be set for a while
